REI to open doors in Market Square on November 11Nov 03, 2022 02:38PM ● By Cristi Mc Kee
The long-awaited REI Co-op is opening its doors at 9 a.m. on Friday, November 11 at 1415 Timberlane Road at Market Square.
To celebrate the grand opening, the store will hold a three day-long celebration full of outdoor vendors, such as Altra, Black Diamond, Brooks Running, Cascade Designs, ENO, Gerber, Küat, NEMO, Nikwax, Oboz Footwear, Osprey, PROBAR, Sea to Summit, Snow Peak, and Subaru, nonprofit partners and afternoon social opportunities for attendees.
The Seattle-based outdoor gear and apparel store was initially supposed to open in Spring of this year, but was delayed for several months due to internal building issues.
This is the seventh REI in the state of Florida, and the first in the Florida Panhandle.
The REI Co-op sells hiking, camping, cycling, fitness, climbing, running and other outdoor clothing, shoes, tools and accessories. Additionally, the store has a specialty bike shop staffed with certified mechanics.
According to REI’s website, the company invests millions of dollars into local nonprofit organizations to steward parks, waterways and trails.
In honor of the Tallahassee store opening, the co-op is investing a total of $20,000 in nonprofits in the region.
In 2022, $82,000 was distributed to 17 nonprofits across the state, including Florida State Parks Association and Florida Trail Association.
You can visit the REI Co-op Friday and Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. or Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. to partake in the weekend celebration.
Each day, a giveaway will be held while supplies last, and the outdoor social will take place each afternoon from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
