According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the regional unemployment rate for Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla counties was an overall 2.6 percent for September 2022.

This brings the region’s unemployment rate 1.1 percent lower than the region’s rate of 3.7 percent a year ago.

This also makes the regional unemployment rate equal to that of the state’s unemployment rate of 2.6 percent.

Wakulla County had the lowest unemployment rate of the three-county Capital Region, at 2.2 percent.

Leon County sat in the middle at 2.6 percent.

Gadsden County was the highest at 3.1 percent.

There were a total of 5,225 unemployed residents in the three-county region.

According to CareerSource’s Capital Region branch, the top-advertised jobs in September were for registered nurses, software developers, all types of managers, retail salespersons, sales representatives, and first-line supervisors of retail sales workers.

As CareerSource continues to fight against unemployment numbers, the agency has made available more than $250,000 in funding for adults who are eager to upskill or change careers and have low household income, through the Talent & Training solutions program.

Individuals interested in pursuing training may qualify for up to $10,000 in financial assistance provided by CareerSource Capital Region in more than 100 educational programs.

Last year, the top training programs that were used through this funding were for career advancement as clinical medical assistance, to obtain CDL licenses, practical nursing education, phlebotomy training, and welding training.

A list of other eligible programs is available at careersourcecapitalregion.com

By participating in the Talent & Training Solutions program, completing a secondary education isn’t the only benefit.

Adults who participate also gain career choice advancement, educational guidance, hands-on experience in their trade of choice, career connections, resume building training, and interview practice.

Individuals interested in training opportunities or financial assistance should call (850) 922-0023 or visit their nearest career center for more information.
