Flesh Eating Mold potentially found in Bradfordville Dog Park

Bradfordville Dog Park located at the Bradfordville Community Center, 6808 Beech Ridge Trail, Tallahassee, has been possibly infested by flesh-eating mold, according to the Leon County Government.

In late August, the county received a report of a dog who had been to the park recently and was found to have been contaminated by  “a naturally occurring contaminant found near ponds and wetlands,” or pythiosis/pythium, otherwise known as flesh-eating mold.

The park was closed for analysis and signage indicating this was posted by the county that same day in “an abundance of caution and to keep pets safe.”

As of August 22, Leon County announced that it planned to fence off the three stormwater facilities in the park where dogs would often splash around and play in the water.

“We are moving quickly to install the fencing and reopen the dog park, but the process may take several weeks,” stated  county officials.

The Leon County Government plans to share updates to safety precautions and a park reopening date in the coming weeks via the county's Facebook page.
